Eye Sight Art by Karen Piloto
Artist's Statement

The philosophy of Constructivism is an evident influence in my paintings, conceptual works of art, and current works in photography. Such influence is achieved as I learn and reflect on my personal present and past experiences, thus constructing my own understanding of the world, ideas and perception in each composition.

My art work focuses on my interpretation and reflection of thoughts, human subjects, objects, organic matter, human psychology, anatomy, biology, architecture and Cuban cultural heritage. It is the latter which gives color and vibrancy of emotion and passion to my work. Obvious and hidden evidence to the eyes visual pathways are the primary focus, as I intentionally place those references in my compositions as guide.

Furthermore, I have a tendency to associate the human body with architecture as my works of art take a constructionist approach. This idea is prevalent through the use and repetition of geometrical shapes to create space through planes, providing weight, volume, flatness, depth, and height to my works. I use black solid lines, irregular lines, pattern lines, continuous lines and fluid lines with brush as the spine that supports my compositions in abstract and concrete forms.

My media choices are: acrylic, ink, oil on canvas and other surfaces that have allowed her to create artworks that are brilliant in color, conceptual, visually appealing and cognitively challenging. Currently, I am experimenting and materials and medium to broaden my techniques as I use photography, found objects, recycled objects, and mixed media to create conceptual works of art. Furthermore, I have developed a great interest in social issues, human existence, feminism, sexuality and the catalyst impact of mankind in the now by motivating dialogue and self expression through art.

My artistic influences are the works like Vincent Van Gogh, Georgia O’Keeffe, Salvador Dali, Alexander Archipenko, and Jean Dubuffet, which have created a foundation for my continuous artistic self discovery as I have grown academically.
